Jazz Band: Designed for musicians interested in learning elements of jazz music. Emphasis is placed on development of swing, blues, pop, rock, and Latin styles of repertoire and performance. Performances include concerts and performance assessments. Instrumentalists must be in one of the concert bands unless they play a non-concert instrument. This band meets after school after marching season is over.
Guard (Eurhythmics): Designed to develop movement to music incorporating flags, dance, rifle, saber, and props. Besides color guard, this class covers varieties of dance styles including ballet, jazz, and modern. Members perform with the Tiger Marching Band and independently during Winter Guard season. Membership is based on tryouts held in the spring.
Tiger Marching Band: The Tiger Marching Band operates primarily during the fall and is comprised of the Symphonic Band, Percussion class and the Guard. Basics of marching and playing in an outdoor ensemble setting are stressed. Performances include football games, performance assessments, festivals, and parades. This band rehearses after school. Instrumentalists must be in one of the concert bands.
Symphonic Band: Designed to develop basic fundamentals, instrumental technique, and musicianship skills. Performances include concerts, performance assessments, and festivals. Members are strongly encouraged to audition for All-County and All-State Band. After-school time is required during concert season. Placement within the ensemble is based on audition and director recommendation. Members must also participate in the Marching Band. Private lessons are strongly recommended.
Choir: The Pensacola High School Choral Department consists of four ensembles: Voices, Men's Ensemble, Les Femmes, and the auditioned Chamber Choir. Approximately 60 students participate in the Pensacola High choirs. PHS choral students also participate in All-County Chorus as well as regional competitions, and a trip in the spring. Choral groups perform music of many periods and styles and develop musicianship through vocal technique, sight-reading, and basic music theory.
